Teams are like tribes;<\/strong><\/p>\n

they need symbols,<\/strong><\/p>\n

continuity,<\/strong><\/p>\n

predictability,<\/strong><\/p>\n

connection,<\/strong><\/p>\n

let's call them\u00a0rituals.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A\u00a0ritual<\/em>\u00a0I propose for your team, for both the connection among team members and your connection with them, is\u00a0the \" dial method\" moment.<\/em><\/p>\n

Imagine that in the meetings you conduct, which are likely focused on what you could do better and what needs improvement, you also include a moment where you ask two or three questions, and your team members respond with utmost sincerity.<\/p>\n

The first question is:\u00a0\"What do I truly contribute to this team?\"<\/em><\/strong>
\nIt would be great if you dared to ask people to first put their answers on paper in the form of a drawing, a single symbolic drawing. After everyone has drawn, they verbally explain what the symbol represents.<\/p>\n

The second question is:\u00a0\"What do you withhold from this team, even though you could provide it?\"<\/em><\/strong>
\nSimilarly, ask them to respond with a symbolic drawing and then verbally.<\/p>\n

You'll be surprised by the insights that surface. You'll gather valuable information about aspects you might not have known within your team, about issues that linger and require resolution.<\/p>\n

If you want to take it further, you can also ask the somewhat classic question:<\/p>\n

\"What do you expect from your team?\"<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Encourage them to respond in the same way.<\/p>\n

This is a great question because afterwards, as a leader, you can discuss expectations and how unproductive it is to expect something from someone in a certain way. After all, no one can know what you expect unless you articulate your expectations<\/p>\n

In this way, people understand each other better, know which buttons to press, and which areas might need a little push for them to contribute more.<\/p>\n

Test it out!<\/p>\n

Repeat it.<\/p>\n

Perform this ritual once a month, every month.<\/p>\n

See what happens.<\/p>\n
