Help or hidden desires?

How honest are we with ourselves?

I was talking to a friend today who told me he wanted to become a financial advisor with the goal of helping people.

That was the moment when I wondered how honest we are with ourselves when we set out to do certain actions.

Free help during the pandemic

The start of the pandemic has given me a lot of strength to offer free coaching sessions. One after another, one after another. I wanted to make it very clear to those I worked with that I wasn't asking for anything in return, not even to leave a review on my Facebook page or website. If I'm doing it to help, I have no reason to expect or ask for anything in return.

But how honest are we when we say we are giving something away for free because we want to help? Who are we helping?

The concept of offering free help

I'm familiar with the concept of offering something for free now, in a limited time unit, with limited content. This way the person can experience what can be offered, but also experience creating the right space to then be offered more, for a fee.

But I can no longer accept the idea of saying that I am doing something for free as a help, but then either asking or expecting something in return. Sometimes the expectation is that that person will ask you to work with you further, and if they don't, you're disappointed. Wrongly, obviously, because he had no way of knowing what you were expecting. You offered him a freebie, you told him you were doing it - to help. Why would you want him to go one step further?

In fact, the intention was to create a context in which you were so good that the man in front of you wanted to work with you further for a fee. But you don't say that. You say you want to help. You lie to yourself and set yourself up for disappointment.

It's much simpler to say you're offering a session that you don't have to pay to see the benefits. If they are what you, the client, feel you need you will then decide whether to enter into an approach where you also pay for what you get. It feels more authentic to me.

P.S: In March I start G.R.O.W - the audio self-coaching program. I will take you through 3 months of powerful experiences from which you will understand who your inner enemies are, how you let them stop you from what you set out to do, and how you can use them instead to achieve your goals or... like me, time-bound desires. I've sold out all the places for all the months I've done it so far.
